We fund and develop tools with the goal of child sexual abuse prevention.
Safe & Loved Foundation is dedicated to preventing and eradicating child sexual abuse. We aim to play a crucial role in addressing one of the most pervasive and underreported forms of child maltreatment, which deserves real attention and action.

Signs of Progress
Safety tools shared openly. ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools) is an independent nonprofit whose founding members include Google, OpenAI and Roblox. It builds free, open-source safety tools that any online platform, large or small, can use. In August 2026, Roblox gave ROOST three of its own safety models, including one that flags early signs of child endangerment, so other platforms can use them too.⁵
Protecting young people in the age of AI. At the 2026 G7 Digital Ministerial in Paris, ROOST partnered with Mila, Québec’s leading AI research institute, to build open-source safeguards that protect young people who use AI chatbots.⁶
Banks joining the effort. Following a successful pilot, financial institutions are now a permanent part of Lantern, helping disrupt financially motivated exploitation.⁷
More platforms detecting abuse. In 2025, more than 86 platforms used Thorn’s Safer to find and report child sexual abuse material.⁸

Keeping children safe today requires us to recognize both the extraordinary promise of technology and the evolving risks children face in an increasingly connected world.
Technology has transformed the way young people learn, create, communicate, and explore. It is also becoming one of our most powerful tools for prevention. Advances in open-source safety technology, responsible innovation, data analysis, and cross-industry collaboration are creating new opportunities to identify risk earlier, strengthen safeguards, and give families practical tools to help protect children.
At the same time, child sexual abuse remains a serious concern both online and in every setting where children live, learn, play, and connect. Meaningful prevention requires that we address both environments.
As a survivor, I understand how lasting the effects of abuse can be. That experience informs the purpose of Safe & Loved Foundation: to help advance practical, innovative approaches that can prevent harm before it occurs.
We believe collaboration can make technology safer for children while preserving its extraordinary benefits.
